45/24 PRATOS DA GUERRA, PRATOS DE PAZ | 20.08.2024 – 02.03.2025 | Opening: 20.08.2024, 3pm Curators: José Aurélio, Alberto Guerreiro and Maria Manuel Aurélio, with the support of the Municipality of Alcobaça, S. Bernardo PPA., Jomazé. Collection of Alcobaça Pottery: Collections of António Villa Nova, Carlos and Conceição Marques Inspired by the initiative of the Olaria de Alcobaça in the 1940s, which provided updates on Allied advances during World War II, and by José Aurélio’s admiration for this movement and its results, Armazém das Artes will once again exhibit “Pratos da Guerra, Pratos de Paz.” This time, the exhibition will present a contextual dialogue between the plates from the Great War era and the reflections, visions, thoughts, conclusions, and doubts that contemporary artists bring regarding war and peace — a theme that remains relevant and, we might say, perennial throughout human history. |
Featuring artwork by guest artists ana+betânia, José Aurélio, Liliana Sousa, Paulo Óscar, Sofia Areal, Thierry Ferreira, Virgínia Fróis, Conceição Cabral, Wilson Esperança.

UNITY THROUGH FIRE | 16.09.2024 – 29.11.2024 | This exhibition is a collaboration between two artists dedicated to the art of ceramics: Liliana de Sousa, an artist from Alcobaça, and Emma Inman, an African-American artist who also found her inspiration and home in Alcobaça. “Unity Through Fire” is a reflection on cultural intersections and the transformative power of art. The artists use ceramics not only as a means of expression, but also as a form of unity and connection between different traditions and experiences. Fire, a fundamental element in the ceramic process, symbolises both transformation and purification, and in this context acts as a link that unites each artist’s narrative. The exhibition presents a variety of works that explore the beauty, resistance and diversity of ceramics. Through their work, Liliana de Sousa and Emma Inman seek to celebrate collaboration and inclusion, promoting an artistic dialogue that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. We invite the community of Alcobaça and all those interested to visit the exhibition and participate in this space of creation and reflection. Together, let’s celebrate art, community and the unity that comes when we connect through creativity. |
